Earlier this evening, several neighbors report thefts actively occurring, as well as suspicious activity suggesting more than isolated incidents.
Westgate Watch sent a text alert to members about the situation, recommending everyone check their gates, cars doors, and backyards and to turn on exterior lights as a precaution.
A handful of members got in their cars and coordinated a sweep of the affected and suspected alleys and streets, calling in open (and clearly broken) gates, including one at a vacant home that has been an ongoing point of concern. Cruisers were eventually dispatched as the weather started to settle in, leading to speculation that the rain may be a deliberate and effective cover for criminal activity, making noise more difficult to notice and reducing the number of dogs and people otherwise outside.
Please check your homes, garages, cars, and yards in the morning and report anything missing or amiss — and thank you to those who called CPD already and volunteered in the moment to increase our visible vigilance without direct confrontation.
